Ink & Watercolor
Supplies
Watercolor paper, watercolors, brushes, pens, india ink, string or toothbrushes or bamboo pen
Instructions
Try pen and ink with watercolor. While marker type pens are convenient and dependable, try exploring other ways to draw with ink. Use a bamboo pen, or an old toothbrush or drag a string dipped in India ink around the paper. Learn how to make your own bamboo or quill pens here: "Pen & Ink" or "World Art: Reed Pens".
There are a few ways to approach this creative exercise. One would be starting with the ink and working with that creating an image or abstraction. Once the ink drawing is dried going back over it with the watercolors. Another would be create a loose background with the watercolors first and going back into it with the ink once the background has dried. Wet on wet could also be tried to see how the ink spreads and mixes with the watercolors.
